The Investigations unit is responsible for investigating all serious felony cases and all cases that will require substantial time and resources to resolve. The unit has 1 Commander, 9 Detectives 1 Crime Analyst and an Administrative Assistant. This group of deputies investigates crimes and files appropriate charges with the District Attorneys Office regarding felony crimes committed in unincorporated Weld County as well as in Weld County Municipalities that do not have their own Law Enforcement Department. The Investigations Unit also focuses on computer crimes, crime lab, victim assistance, fraud, some misdemeanor offenses, sex offender registration and crime analysis. The members of the Investigations unit are committed to quality service with an emphasis on integrity, professionalism and community spirit. The goal of the Investigations unit is to identify suspects, apprehend criminals, collect evidence, provide comprehensive victim services, and to protect the public by detecting and mitigating serious crimes and crime trends. Detectives are assigned to work Monday - Friday, 0700-1700. They also rotate through an "on-call" position several weekends each year as well as week nights so that there are always resources available to investigate serious crimes. Investigators are trained to be "investigative generalists", assigned to a specific geographical district where they manage follow-up investigations for that district. The Investigations unit is dedicated to the “CRIME TRAC” style of community policing and the assigned work areas are de-centralized to coincide with our patrol counterparts. Although assigned to differing geographic areas and areas of responsibility, all detectives work together as a single unit, following the principles of incident command when a major crime occurs (such as a homicide) to produce the most effective and professional resolution. The district assignments for the investigators are as follows:
Investigations Administrative Assistant
District 1:
District 2:
District 3:
District 4:
Computer Forensics:
With the increase in population and business comes an increase in serious crime. To meet this challenge, the detectives operate in an environment of continuous training and upgrading, both in investigative skills and equipment/technology advances. Interaction and communication with other law enforcement agencies is critical to the success of any investigative operation. This philosophy of training, experience and interaction has led to a criminal clearance rates well above the national average. |
