Auxiliary Program The Weld County Sheriff's Office has 4 components of the volunteers. Posse, Reserves, Volunteers and Explorers. The members meet the second Monday evening of each month at the Training Center 1104 H St. The program is not supported by the sheriff's office budget. The budget the program has to work with comes from the contributions made to the program. This money is spent on training and incentives. The Posse The posse members consist of volunteers, level 1 reserves and full time deputies who enjoy law enforcement activities on horseback. Eighty members strong activities range from providing security at Weld County's largest event known as the Greeley Independence Stampede to visiting with residents of local nursing homes with the horses. Posse members are often called upon to assist with searches in a criminal case or searching for a missing persons or riot control. As members of the Colorado State Posse Association participants compete in the annual state meet hosted in counties across the state. 40 hr training courses are conducted utilizing instructors from the membership.
Reserves and Volunteers The Reserves and volunteers are the ground support of the program. The difference separating the two is the level of training. The reserves have an appointment from the sheriff as a commissioned peace officer while working at the direction of the sheriff's office. The reserves have received the same training as a full time deputy and are required to maintain annual qualification in the 3 skills areas. The volunteers contribute their time in the many areas they may have expertise. Searches, security on crime scenes or sporting events are just a few of the assignments. The Explorers
