John Maedel submitted Wednesday his resignation in lieu of termination and is no longer an employee of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
Maedel was arrested April 14 by the Greeley Police Department and booked into the Weld County Jail on charges of stalking and harassment. The sheriff’s office requested Greeley police investigate Maedel upon learning about a protection order filed against him.
Once booked, the sheriff’s office launched an internal investigation of Maedel. That effort was still ongoing as of Wednesday when Maedel submitted his resignation.
The Weld District Attorney’s Office filed Tuesday formal charges against Maedel in Weld District Court, including one count of felony stalking and two counts of misdemeanor harassment.
Maedel was hired in October 2016. He was last assigned to the Investigations Unit as a detective.
