University High senior donates money to sheriff’s office for body armor

Posted on 03/19/2020

Earlier this week, a University High School student donated more than $700 to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office as part of his senior project.

Teagan Gehring decided to raise money for the purchase of body armor for a deputy. He raised money through a bake sale, a smoothie bar, donation buckets at local businesses and by asking his friends and family for additional funds.

On Tuesday, Gehring brought the money he raised to the sheriff’s office and presented it to Undersheriff Donnie Patch. It totaled $774 in cash.

The sheriff’s office will use the donated funds to purchase body armor and an external carrier for the Detentions Division. The body armor will be used by deputies tasked with transporting inmates out of the Weld County Jail.

“The citizens of Weld County have always been supportive of law enforcement,” Patch said. “It is fantastic to see that same support developing in our young adults.”
