Weld County Sheriff’s Office investigating reports of police impersonator

Posted on 04/01/2020

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a police impersonator pulling vehicles over at locations throughout the county.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black Dodge Charger that might be equipped with emergency lights in the dash, and may or may not be outfitted with magnetic, law enforcement-type signs on the door. It is believed the Charger is a 2016 or similar model.

The suspect is described as a heavy-set white man of medium height with light hair. He might also be wearing dark clothing he is trying to pass off as a police uniform.

The sheriff’s office doesn’t routinely use unmarked cars for traffic contacts and isn’t during this time of the Coronavirus pandemic. If you are being pulled over by a car that you can’t identify, slow down, put on your emergency flashers and call 911 to confirm the stop is legitimate.

Anyone with additional information about this case is asked to call the Weld County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Unit at (970) 400-2825.
