Posted on 02/07/2020

The Weld County Regional SWAT team assisted earlier this week the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office with the arrest of a homicide suspect who was hiding out in the city of Evans.

Efren Jose Almeida, 34, a transient, was wanted by the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of first-degree murder and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies, in the death of 38-year-old Timothy Bryant of Fort Collins. About 9:20 p.m. Jan. 27, Larimer County deputies responded to a report of an injured person in the 200 block of Link Lane in Fort Collins. Bryant was found dead outside of a building.

On Tuesday, Feb. 4, Larimer County investigators received information Almeida was in the area of U.S. 85 and 39th Street in Evans. Larimer County deputies coordinated with the Evans Police Department and the Weld County SWAT team to execute an arrest warrant near that location.

The SWAT team was mobilized at 10:30 p.m., arriving 14 minutes later at Almeida’s suspected location inside a parked camper in the 3800 block of Idaho Street. The SWAT team began making verbal announcements over a loudspeaker for Almeida to surrender. He was arrested at 11:39 p.m. without incident.

No shots were fired and no injuries to Almeida nor law enforcement were reported.

Also responding to the call were the Weld County Sheriff’s Office’s Strike Team and the Greeley Police Department’s Special Enforcement Team.

Almeida is being held without bond at the Larimer County Jail pending his first court appearance, which takes place at 8:30 a.m. Feb. 11 in Larimer District Court.
