Child Abuse Arrest

Derek KinchOn July 21, 2017, in the early morning hours, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of possible child abuse that had occurred in the 11000 block of Montgomery Circle in unincorporated Weld County near Longmont, CO. 

Allegations of ongoing child abuse were made against Derek Kinch (01/24/1985); Kinch has been a deputy with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office since 2008 and was assigned to the Courts Division of the Weld County Sheriff’s Office at the time of the allegations.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office immediately started an investigation into the allegations.  As a result of this investigation, Kinch was arrested today on charges of 2nd degree assault (class 4 felony) and Child Abuse (class 2 misdemeanor).

In addition to the criminal investigation, an internal investigation has also been started, and Kinch has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of his court proceedings.

This is an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.

All charges are merely accusations until proven guilty in a court of law.
