Deputy Involved Shooting Investigation
On December 31, 2017, at approximately 02:41am, A deputy with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office, working a DUI shift, observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on HWY 52 and College Avenue, in the City of Fort Lupton, Weld County, Colorado. The deputy attempted to make a traffic stop on the vehicle. The vehicle failed to stop for the deputy and a short pursuit ensued.

The vehicle came to a stop in the 200 block of McKinley Avenue, in Fort Lupton. The suspect was armed with a handgun. The deputy discharged his weapon.

The suspect was transported to a nearby hospital and his condition is unknown at the time. The deputy was not injured.

The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) has been activated to investigate this incident, and all media requests will be handled by the 19th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team.

The deputy involved has been put on administrative leave, pending the outcome of the investigation.
