Early Morning Pursuit Ends With Arrest
On Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at about 04:25 am, Deputies with thePhoto Suspect Weld County Sheriff’s Office were advised of a traffic complaint, of possible impaired driver heading northbound on HWY 85 from Weld County Road 2, near Brighton. The reporting party, reported that a white Ford pickup truck could not maintain its lane and was suddenly braking.

Deputies spotted the vehicle matching the description heading northbound on HWY 85 and Weld County Road 6. The deputy pulled in behind the vehicle and observed the same driving actions that were reported. The deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failed to yield to the deputy and short pursuit ensued. Stop sticks were deployed two different times. The driver then pulled over and was taken into custody without further incident.

The driver was identified as 48-year-old, Matthew Daniel Velasquez, of Platteville. Velasquez was charged with: DUI, eluding, driving while revoked, weaving and had a failure to appear warrant for his arrest out of Westminster Police Department.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office commends the citizen for reporting the dangerous motorist to law enforcement. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office wants to remind the community to always stay vigilant and report any suspected impaired drivers to law enforcement immediately.

These charges are merely an accusation. All defendants are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
