Sheriff’s Office informing public about rash of thefts at Weld County business

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a rash of thefts at CoPart, an online vehicle auction house with a salvage lot in Weld County.

Since Jan. 1, the sheriff’s office has completed 18 area watches, responded to seven reports of suspicious activity, made four citizen contacts and responded to four alarm calls at CoPart, 1281 Weld County Road 27 near Brighton. Deputies have investigated or are in the process of investigating nine cases at the business ranging from property damage to stolen vehicles.

Among the stolen vehicles include five pickups, nine motorcycles, one SUV, one dirt bike and one enclosed trailer. The estimated value of the stolen vehicles is $150,991. Deputies met with company managers today to discuss options to make their lot more secure.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office is asking the community to help the local business by being vigilant when in the area of CoPart. Keep you eyes open and if you see something suspicious, please report it by dialing 911.
