Weld County Sheriff’s Office Death Investigation

On May 18, 2017 at approximately 3:20 pm, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the intersection of WCR 136 and WCR 77 west of Hereford CO to a report of a possible fatal traffic accident.  Preliminary information suggested that the driver of an 18 wheeler semi-truck was performing maintenance on the vehicle when the vehicle unexpectedly moved and the driver was possibly run over by the vehicle; the driver was declared deceased at the scene.

As Sheriff’s Deputies began their investigation they found that the driver of the truck, 49 year old Nathan Combs from Burns Wyoming, was not run over by the vehicle but had died as the result of an apparent gunshot wound; evidence at the scene suggested that the wound was not self-inflicted.

The Weld County Sheriff’s Office has launched a full investigation of the incident, and is currently looking for any information that could help us solve this crime.

This is an active investigation, and details are limited.  No further information will be released at this time.
