Arrest Made from January 2023 Disturbance Call

On Jan. 12, 2023, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office received a call on a cold disturbance in the parking lot of McDonald’s and the Circle K gas station at Highway 119 and W. I-25 Frontage Rd. Responding Deputies learned the victim may have been shot at on Jan 9, 2023, in the parking lot. Detectives later learned the victim had been involved in a workplace disturbance which had followed her to the restaurant parking lot. Detectives spoke with the victim and witnesses, reviewed surveillance footage, and compiled evidence to develop a suspect, Donald Maurice Gibson-Day (DOB: 8/24/91).

On Apr. 11, 2023, Detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Mr. Gibson-Day and traveled to his home in Charlotte, NC to apprehend him and attempt to locate the firearm used in the crime. Weld County Detectives partnered with the Charlotte Mecklenburg P.D. to attempt the apprehension; however, Gibson-Day had left his home before they arrived.

On Apr. 13, 2023, Weld County Detectives coordinating with four separate police agencies, ultimately requesting aid from the Ohio State Patrol (Sandusky Station) who apprehended the defendant on the warrant. Ohio State Troopers located a semi-automatic pistol in the defendant’s control, and he was charged with an additional felony for the possession of the weapon.
