Deputy investigates suspicious incident and suspect rams WCSO patrol car
[Greeley, CO]- Today, at approximately 6:00 a.m. Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies received a suspicious call in the 3600 block of 65th Ave in Greeley. The reporter advised a pickup truck was at the security gate to their residence and was trying to enter the property. A patrol deputy arrived on-scene, and attempted to communicate with the male suspect, and investigate the circumstances. The suspect was uncooperative with the deputy’s investigation. While the deputy continued to communicate with the suspect and investigate the call, the suspect rammed the deputy’s patrol car with his vehicle. The following police departments responded for back up: Greeley, Milliken, Evans, and the Johnstown Police Department. During this time the suspect remained in his vehicle, refusing to get out, and was ultimately identified as 52-year-old, Christian James Lujan. Law enforcement closed off the roadways around the scene, and a reverse 911 was sent to keep the public safe while medical personnel staged in the area.
After approximately two hours of attempting to peacefully get Lujan out of his car, law enforcement officers physically removed Lujan out of the car. Lujan was transported to the hospital to receive a medical clearance to be booked into the Weld County Jail. The deputy investigating this incident was not injured.
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office arrested Lujan on suspicion of the following charges:
Resisting Arrest (M2)
First Degree Assault on a Peace Officer (F3)
Criminal Mischief (F5)
This is an active investigation, and no further information will be released at this time.
