Beginning August 1st, 2026 per Colorado Senate Bill (SB) 25-003, prior to the purchase of a specified semiautomatic firearm (SSF) in the state of Colorado, you must first obtain an eligibility card through the Sheriff’s Office and then enroll and complete an extended firearms safety course or a hunter education course and basic firearm safety course.

In the future, the Weld County Sheriff's Office will be accepting applications online. You may also come in person to the Weld County Sheriff's Office Administration Building, 1950 O St. in Greeley. Walk-ins are welcome, no appointments are necessary. Applications are accepted from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
