CIRT team investigates fatal officer-involved shooting in Greeley
This press release is being distributed on behalf of the 19th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT).
[Greeley, Colo.] – The 19th Judicial CIRT team is investigating an officer-involved fatal shooting that occurred on May 14, 2025, in Greeley, CO.
Greeley Police received numerous calls for service of a man in the 500 Block of 16th Avenue brandishing a knife. The man was last seen walking west towards 21st Avenue. An officer located him in the 1900 block of 2nd Street. The man was observed walking down the street swinging a knife aggressively at passing cars.
The man refused to comply with the officer’s commands to drop the knife. The man walked quickly towards the officer and was still not complying with officer commands to drop the knife. The officer discharged his firearm. Additional officers arrived on scene. Officers attempted life-saving measures until medical personnel arrived on scene. The man was pronounced deceased at 2:25 p.m.
The man, involved in this incident was on parole. He will not be identified until the Weld County Coroner’s Office notifies his next of kin.
No officers, and no other members of the public were injured.
