[Greeley, Colo.] – The 19th Judicial CIRT team is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred today at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Officers from the Greeley Police Department responded to a call for service about a burglary in progress in the 2800 block of 16th Avenue. As officers approached, Manuel Cazares, 34, opened the front door and allegedly pointed a weapon at an officer. The officer fired at Cazares; he was not hit and retreated into the residence. Officers ordered him to exit the residence, which he did. Cazares stopped complying. He was shot with a less-than-lethal munition and taken into custody without further incident.

Cazares was transported to the Weld County Jail where he was arrested on charges of felony menacing and a protection order violation. Additional charges may be pending.

These charges are merely accusations, and all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
