[WELD COUNTY, Colo.] Today, at 7:17 A.M. the Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol division responded to the Weld County Public Health Department located at 1555 N. 17th Ave in Greeley in reference to a trespassing in-progress. The reporter advised a door was propped to the building, and they saw a male running on the second floor of the building who was not supposed to be there.
Deputies established a perimeter around the building and began searching for the trespasser with the assistance of K-9 officers. K-9 officers could not deploy K-9’s in every office because employees were working in some of them. During the search, deputies noted some of the offices had been disturbed because items were all over the floor. The building search was completed around 8:30 A.M. and deputies did not locate a suspect.
At 8:52 A.M. patrol received a second call for service, at the Weld County Public Health Department Building. The reporter advised a male was found sleeping in an office under a desk that was not initially searched by deputies because it was locked. Deputies arrived on-scene and took the suspected male trespasser, Michael Jackson, 62, into custody. After further investigation, Jackson was arrested on suspicion of the following charges:
SECOND DEG. BURGLARY-FELONY
THEFT-LESS THAN $300 (PETTY)
CRIMINAL MISCHIEF - UNDER $300 IN DAMAGES (PETTY)
SECOND DEGREE CRIMINAL TAMPERING (Misdemeanor)
No employees or deputies were injured in this incident. There is no danger to the public, and no further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###
