WCSO Drone Footage Still Photo

Law enforcement collaboration and drone technology lead to successful apprehension of LCSO suspect

[Weld County, Colo.] Today, around 12:47 A.M. the Larimer County Sheriff’s office (LCSO) requested assistance from the Weld County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) drone team at Weld County Road 15 and Weld County Road 120.

At the time of the request, LCSO tried to stop a vehicle traveling at dangerously excessive speeds on I-25 near Wellington that refused to stop. LCSO lost sight of the suspect vehicle. LCSO has issued a press release regarding this incident on their social media that provides further context and information.

Due to the remote location, and the ongoing search for one of the vehicle’s occupants, LCSO requested assistance from the WCSO drone team.

After receiving flight approval, a WCSO drone operator responded, put the drone in flight, and after a brief search, located the suspect by using the drone’s heat signature capabilities. The drone operator guided deputies to a fence line that was covered in tumbleweeds where the suspect was hiding, and he was safely taken into custody by LCSO.

This is a powerful example of how teamwork among law enforcement agencies helps achieve our shared mission of protecting communities and solving crime. It also highlights how drone technology can enhance public safety and provide rapid, efficient support during critical incidents.

All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###
