Weld County deputy arrested following an investigation

[Weld County, COLO.] Yesterday, just before 5 P.M. Alex Porter, 23, was arrested on suspicion of:

  • Assault In the Third Degree (DV) - 2 Counts
  • Stalking-Repeatedly Follow-Protection Order Violation (DV)
  • First Degree Official Misconduct (DV)
  • Tampering With Physical Evidence (DV)
  • Harassment - Strikes/Shoves/Kicks (DV) - 3 Counts

following an investigation by the Weld County Sheriff’s Office into allegations of domestic violence.

The alleged conduct occurred on or about the last week of May, 2026. The sheriff’s office learned of the allegations through an internal investigation that took place over the course of the last week.

Porter is a post-certified patrol deputy, who has been employed with the Weld County Sheriff’s Office for 4 years. He is currently on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of the internal and criminal investigations.

“Law enforcement officers are expected to hold themselves to a higher standard than the average citizen. It is unfortunate that this incident occurred, but justice must be applied equally” said, Weld County Sheriff, Steve Reams.

This is an active, ongoing investigation, and no further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations until, and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
