Man arrested after an investigation into a disturbance

[Weld County, COLO.] On June 26, shortly before 7:30 P.M. Weld County patrol deputies responded to a disturbance in the 26400 block of 2ND Street near Kersey.

During the investigation, deputies identified the suspect, 31-year-old Gregory Medina. Medina reportedly got into an argument with a family member and then got into a physical fight with another male victim at the scene. Medina allegedly caused damage to the male victim’s vehicle and reportedly threatened him with a log that had sharp broken branches on the sides. Medina was also suspected of killing a chicken on the property prior to the arrival of deputies. A short time later, Medina allegedly began breaking a fence and fled the scene once the first deputy arrived.

While still conducting the investigation, Medina returned to the scene. A deputy tried to interview him, but he reportedly walked past the deputy, continued into a residence, and returned outside and reportedly threw flowerpots full of dirt at deputies and aggressively advanced towards others that were on the scene. Deputies tried to take Medina into custody, and he reportedly threw a piece of wood at one of them. One deputy deployed his taser several times but could not gain control of Medina. Medina then got into a physical altercation with two deputies, and one of them was able to deploy his taser to gain control of Medina and arrest him.

One deputy was transported to the hospital due to injuries he sustained in the physical altercation with Medina. A second deputy also went to the hospital for the same reason, and both have been released and are expected to recover.

After Medina was medically cleared at the hospital, he was arrested on suspicion of:

• Second Degree Assault - Police Off/Fireman Minor Injury- 2 Counts

• Assault in the Third Degree

• Assault In Third Degree-Fluids-First Responder

• Menacing

• Criminal Mischief - Under $300 In Damages

• Criminal Mischief $300 - $1000 Public

• Resisting Arrest

• Obstructing Peace Officer. Police Animal. Fireman

• Animal Cruelty - Aggravated

• 3 Local Warrants

The sheriff’s office would like to thank the Greeley Police Department, Evans Police Department, La Salle Police Department, Kersey Police Department, and the Colorado State Patrol for assisting the sheriff’s office with this incident. This is an active investigation, and no further information will be released today.

All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, or unless proven guilty in a court of law.
