A WCSO patrol deputy clocked an Acura TLX at 115 miles per hour in a 75 mile per hour zone on Interstate 25 near mile marker 232 around 11:18 P.M. yesterday.

The deputy got behind the Acura, turned on his emergency red and blue lights, and tried to conduct a traffic stop on it. He observed another vehicle that was not involved in the traffic stop, trying to get out of the suspect vehicle’s way. The deputy witnessed the Acura nearly rear-end the uninvolved vehicle at 123 miles an hour. The deputy still had his emergency lights on, but now he turned on his siren, and signaled the driver of the Acura to stop. The driver of the Acura did not yield. After about a mile of deputy trying to stop the Acura, the driver finally pulled over near mile marker 237.

The deputy identified the driver as 23-year-old, Jose Alvarez-Hernandez. After conducting his investigation, the deputy arrested Alvarez-Hernandez on suspicion of:

  • Reckless Endangerment
  • Drove Vehicle Without Valid Driver’s License
  • Speeding (40 miles per hour over prima facie limit)
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failed to yield right of way-emergency vehicle

Please keep in mind driving this fast endangers everyone on the road. Let’s keep our community safe, and slow down. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, or unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###
