WCSO Detectives Charge 30-Year-Old Man in Assault Investigation

[Weld County, COLO.] A 30-year-old man faces several charges following an investigation into two incidents of domestic violence related assault.

On Aug. 30, 2026, shortly after 12:30 a.m., the Weld County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a cold assault at the UCHealth Harmony Campus Emergency Room located in Fort Collins. The victim reported the first incident of assault occurred the day prior around 3 A.M. in the 20100 block of Weld County Road 15, near Johnstown in Weld County.

The victim and Kansas Naquin reportedly drove to a friend’s residence and after a short time, Naquin became angry with the victim and the friend. Naquin allegedly shoved the friend several times and was told to leave. The victim and Naquin walked outside the residence, and Naquin allegedly assaulted her.

The victim and Naquin left the friend’s residence and drove to the 4600 block of Weld County Road 46. A short time later, Naquin reportedly strangled the victim and grabbed her face after he became angry with her. Naquin then allegedly got a firearm and pointed it at the victim.  

Naquin eventually was standing in the doorway while the victim was seated behind him. Naquin then discharged a firearm multiple times towards a nearby barn, in the opposite direction of the victim. 

Detectives picked up the investigation from patrol and developed probable cause to obtain an arrest warrant.  Naquin was arrested today on suspicion of:

• Second Degree Assault – Causes Serious Bodily Injury (DV)
• Second Degree Assault-Agg Family-Strangulation (DV)
• Menacing - Real/Simulated Weapon (DV)
• Reckless Endangerment (DV)

No further information will be released today. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###
