Daniel Loera mugshot Weld County Sheriff's Office

[Weld County, CO] Yesterday at 4:48 P.M. Weld County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies responded to a check on the well-being near 10693 Interstate 25 (I-25) southbound. Dispatch advised a female was heard screaming and crying before the call disconnected.

Dispatch provided deputies with a location south of mile marker 240 on the I-25 southbound on-ramp, where the call originated from.

Deputies arrived in the area minutes later and observed a white van stopped on the west side of the on-ramp. A deputy pulled up behind the van, and it crossed the grass median between I-25 and West I-25 Frontage Road to leave the area.

Deputies attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle.  The vehicle failed to stop and continued driving into River Valley Village Mobile Home Park at speeds estimated between 15-25 miles per hour while failing to stop at stop signs. Deputies saw what they believed to be an argument between the passenger and driver of the van. Fearing a possible kidnapping or assault was taking place, deputies pursued the vehicle to a trailer lot where the vehicle stopped.

The male driver, who was later identified as, 18-year-old Daniel Loera, got out of the van and was taken into custody without force. Deputies also contacted the female passenger and a small child.

During the investigation, the victim alleged an argument took place and Loera pushed her, shoved her, and threw her phone and damaged it. Deputies also learned the child in the car did not have a car seat, and there was an active protection order between Loera and the victim.

Loera was arrested on suspicion of the following charges:

  • Criminal mischief $300 - $1000 business (DV)
  • Child abuse - negligence
  • Violation of restraining order
  • Harassment strikes shoves kicks (DV)
  • Vehicular eluding
  • Driving under restraint (suspended) (traffic)
  • Failed to stop at stop sign at intersection (traffic) - 2 counts
  • Improper use of flashing turn signal (traffic) - 2 counts

The Sheriff’s Office is thankful that this incident concluded without serious injuries. We strongly encourage anyone who believes they are a victim of domestic violence to reach out to their local law enforcement for assistance. No further information will be released at this time. All charges are merely accusations, and a defendant is presumed innocent until, unless proven guilty in a court of law. ###
